Opposition parties are likely to convene soon to discuss the two-day assembly session scheduled for February, which they said is insufficient to address pressing issues in Goa.

Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao said there were numerous issues requiring attention.

“This is a murder of democracy. The last session held in August was 21 days, and since then there have been numerous changes in Goa involving corruption and scams. Having only two days, one of which is for the Governor’s address, leaves us with just one day to raise our concerns and questions,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

Alemao also criticised the Speaker, saying it was his responsibility to ensure a healthy debate in the assembly.

“But the Speaker is also putting his hands up.
We fail to understand why this government is follo-
wing Salazar law. The extent of land and job scams as well as other issues is alarming. All the opposition members will come together soon to decide our next steps,” he said.

Referring to the recent case of Siddique Khan, who escaped from police custody and was later apprehended, Alemao said there was a failure on the part of the home department.

He alleged a possible nexus between politicians and the land mafia.

“The biggest question is how this criminal was allowed to escape and the claims he has made since then. There are questions about where he was caught—whether in Kerala, Bengaluru, or elsewhere. The police, acting on the dictation of elected representatives, have created a very dangerous trend. There must be an inquiry into this for sure,” he said.
