North Goa police have checked more than 10,000 vehicles and verified over 19,000 persons between October 20 and 26 as part of an intensified nakabandi operation across the district.
Police said the checks were being conducted every day and night to ensure crime prevention and public safety.
During this period, officers verified 19,883 persons and checked 10,185 vehicles. Strategic nakabandis were carried out at vulnerable and sensitive locations under all police station jurisdictions, particularly during night hours and weekends. The operations aim to detect and deter illegal activities such as drug trafficking, drunken driving, vehicle theft, and the movement of antisocial elements.
A senior police officer said the intensive nakabandi operations and other preventive actions were being undertaken to maintain law and order and curb criminal activity in North Goa. “Police in the north district continue to take proactive steps to prevent offences, ensure the safety of citizens, and maintain peace and order,” the officer said.
Police have urged the public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious or unlawful activities to the nearest police station. The heightened vigilance follows the dacoity at Ganeshpuri, Mapusa, earlier this month, when six armed and masked robbers broke into the bungalow of a doctor on October 7. They tied up the family members, including the doctor’s elderly mother, and escaped with cash and gold jewellery worth around Rs 35 lakh.
Two Bangladeshi nationals were later arrested for conspiring with the main accused, who remain at large and are believed to have fled to Bangladesh.
