Panchayat workersto intensify efforts for 7th pay benefits

The All Goa Panchayat Workers Union (AGPWU) has decided to step up their campaign to secure 7th 
pay benefits to panchayat employees.

Union members during the 41st general body meeting held  on Sunday decided to first meet the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho to secure their nod before launching an indefinite struggle, including a call for a pen-down strike by all panchayat
workers.

Over 300 panchayat employees spread over 19 panchayats and 12 taluka blocks attended the general body meeting presided over by the AGPWU president Santosh Naik (AITUC), secretary Roque Da Silva, vice presidents  Pradeep Gawas and Ramnath Gawde, and other union members comprising Seema Naik, Swaroopa Naik, Jasmine D’Costa, Rupesh Naik, Swapnil Naik, Anil Naik, Pritam Phadte, Santosh Nerulkar, and Vijay Velip.

The day-long deliberations discussed panchayat workers steadfast struggle to secure their rights, issues such a regularisation of contract workers, etc.

The meeting was addressed by AITUC Goa, president Prasanna Utagi and AITUC general secretary Christopher Fonseca. The AGPWU was formed in 1984 in Margao town as a union under AITUC.
