Panic prevailed near the Vales junction in Dabolim on Wednesday morning after an Adani natural gas pipeline was damaged during construction work of the Dabolim flyover, resulting in a gas leak in the area.
Officials said the incident occurred during excavation work for the flyover project. Residents and passers-by noticed the leakage and raised an alarm, following which Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot to avert any untoward incident.
Officials said that the pipeline had already been shut off as a precaution due to the ongoing construction. They said the gas that leaked was residual gas from the pipeline.
Emergency teams secured the area and ensured public safety. The situation was brought under control within a short time, and no injuries or property damage was reported.
Authorities said additional safety measures would be implemented to prevent similar incidents during ongoing infrastructure work.
