A complaint was lodged at the Agacaim police station on Sunday by a group of activists, led by Kashinath Shetye, accusing a professor from Goa University of leaking a question paper to a female student.
“The student is the girlfriend of the professor,” Shetye alleged.
The group has demanded a thorough investigation to ensure justice for other
hardworking students.
Speaking to mediapersons after filing the complaint, Shetye claimed that the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, and the head of the department were informed about the stealing of the question paper by the professor. However, no action has been taken.
He stated that the matter was kept under the carpet after the professor was simply issued
a warning. Shetye alleged that a former minister was involved in attempting to cover up the issue in order to settle it discretely.
According to Shetye and the other activists, the professor is a married man.
The activists expressed concern over the injustice caused to meritorious students, who work hard for their success, while others benefit unfairly due to such cases. Shetye warned that if the
Agacaim police fail to file an FIR within 24 hours, they will take up the matter with the superintendent of police, and may even seek legal action
in court.
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Goa has strongly condemned the incident, calling it a betrayal of students’ trust.
In a statement, the NSUI demanded the immediate termination of the professor and urged for strict legal action against everyone involved in the case.
The student body further called on the university to end its cover-up of corruption and to ensure fair education for all.
The NSUI vowed to continue its fight for justice until the issue is resolved.
The Goa University refused to comment on the issue, saying that a related statement will be issued on Monday.
