Ponda: Despite the Chief Minister’s intervention, water supply issues in Prabhunagar, Ponda, remained unresolved for the tenth day, prompting residents to once again confront Public Works Department (PWD) officials on Wednesday. This time, they were led by councillors of Ponda Municipal Council (PMC).
Residents met Sawant a few days ago, who assured that water supply would resume by Monday. However, by Wednesday, only some residents had received water, while many remained without supply.
On Thursday, councillor Vishwanath Dalvi joined the residents in demanding an immediate resolution.
PWD officials assured that the issue would be resolved by Thursday.
PWD Assistant Engineer Kashinath Saraf said that while the valve tampering issue had been addressed, some residents were still not receiving proper water supply.
He said that a pipeline in the uphill areas of Prabhunagar might be ruptured or damaged, and officials were actively monitoring the situation.
Saraf said that underground drilling for the sewerage network in the area might have caused internal damage to the waterline, leading to leakage through the sewerage trench without visible water spillage.
He said they were facing difficulty in pinpointing the fault but assured that efforts were underway to resolve the issue by Thursday.
Dalvi said he was supporting the residents, setting aside political differences.
“The people of Prabhunagar have been facing water shortages for the past ten days and want the issue resolved at any cost. I trust PWD officials will fix it by Thursday. In the meantime, PWD has assured water supply through tankers,” he said.
Last Thursday, residents, led by MGP’s Ketan Bhatikar, had confronted PWD officials over the lack of water supply for five days, alleging valve tampering as the cause.
As the issue persisted, they lodged a police complaint against PWD officials on Sunday.
