The Goa government has designated the newly constructed Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter at Porvorim as the temporary Secretariat office for the Mhadei-Progressive River Authority for Welfare and Harmony (PRAWAH).
The decision was made during a meeting in October 2024, where PRAWAH granted administrative approval for the office setup at the Porvorim location. The building, which has halls on each of its three floors, will be partitioned as per the office requirements. The space was inspected by the PRAWAH Chairperson and members, along with Water Resources Department (WRD) officials, last year.
An order has been issued to allot the building for PRAWAH’s use for an initial period of two years.
A senior WRD official said that a piece of land near Dabolim will be leased for the construction of a permanent office for Mhadei-PRAWAH. In the meantime, the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter at Porvorim will serve as a temporary office space for the authority’s Secretariat.
Meanwhile, Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar, in response to a question in the Goa Legislative Assembly, said that the water diverted by Karnataka has not been quantified, and no construction work is underway at the diversion site. He also clarified that no illegal construction work was noted during a visit by Mhadei-PRAWAH officials to Karnataka last year.
