Panaji: As part of the ongoing security measures post the Pahalgam terror attack, police in North Goa on Monday rounded up 556 suspected persons while 15 were arrested under preventive action. Police said that 1,129 tenants and 431 servants/house help were verified. Police also filled stranger rolls of 40 persons.
Police said that combing operations were carried out at St Inez, Chimbel, Bambolim, Mapusa market, Starco junction in Anjuna, Durga Nagar in Colvale, Malpem railway station, Arambol, labour colony at the Mopa Airport, Shemeche Alvan Nagzar, Socorro, Pilerne, Candolim, Tabrawado and Belavistawado-Sangolda, Bhamai Pali, Bordem-Bicholim, Mayem and Sankhali, Ansolem, Nanus in Valpoi.
From Friday last week till Sunday, the police in North Goa have verified 9,891 tenants and house helps while 345 stranger rolls were filled. During this time, 906 persons were rounded up for verification while 78 persons were arrested under preventive action.
Simultaneously, combing operations and verifications were also carried out across the South Goa district. A total of 638 tenants, 39 servants and 2 strangers were verified, 122 persons were rounded up while 9 persons were arrested under preventive action.
Also, 36 hotels/guest houses were checked. In addition, 48 foreigners and 5 Kashmiris were verified during the operation, police said.
According to the police, the combing operations and special drives will continue in the coming days to detect and prevent crime, and to maintain law and order across the state.
