Foundation stones for projects worth Rs 36 crore were laid at different locations in Sanguem constituency on the occasion of the birthday of Sanguem MLA and Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai.

Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone of a playground at Old Wada in Wadem Colony No. 1, Phal Dessai said the government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was taking ambitious decisions for the welfare of Goans. “The houses which were constructed before 2014 will now be legalised along with the area of the house, even if they are on government land, private land or forest area,” he said. He added that the playground would be constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore.

Among those present were Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, ZP Suresh Kepekar, former MLA Vasudev Meng Gaonkar and others.

At Pajimol, a foundation stone for a Krishi Ghar was laid in the presence of Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik. “He is a foresighted MLA who wants all-round development of his constituency,” Naik said. The Krishi Ghar, to be built at a cost of Rs 3 crore, will be completed at the earliest for the benefit of farmers, he said.

Another foundation stone was laid at Pajimol for a veterinary hospital to be constructed at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore. Animal Husbandry Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar, who was the chief guest, said, “Before taking the decision I personally surveyed the area and was convinced that the farmers are really in need of a veterinary hospital. Farmers from Sanguem, Quepem and Curchorem supply milk on a large scale, but they have to go to Curtorim to visit a hospital. After consulting with the Chief Minister, we decided to build this facility here.”

He added that the hospital will have an operation theatre, X-ray facilities and other infrastructure, and though the stipulated time is 14 months, it would be completed

within a year.

In Sanguem town, the foundation stone for a new police station building was laid. Director General of Police Alok Kumar said, “The building will be ground plus four, constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore. It will be a modern building equipped with all required facilities. Though the time limit is three years, it is expected to be completed in 18 months.” IT Minister Rohan Khaunte was also present on the occasion.
