In order to address the long-standing concerns regarding sewage leakages and the choking of pipelines under the South Goa District Collectorate building in Margao, the Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) has awarded a tender to Agasti Enterprises for the maintenance of sewer networks and the sump tank at this facility.

The tender, amounting to Rs 47.69 lakh, is 4.88 per cent above the estimated cost. The contractor has been instructed to finalise the formal agreement promptly and commence work within 60 days.

“Agasti Enterprises must register for the undertaking within 10 days under the Contract Labour (Regulation &Abolition) Act, 1970, the Managing Director of SIDCGL said, adding that the contractor is required to submit a declaration concerning the technical staff, as stipulated under Clause 36 of the contract agreement.  This apart,  the  copies of the work order are to be forwarded to the Income Tax Officer, TDS Ward, Commissioner of Labour, and Commissioner of Sales, along with the work order and work file, as instructed by SIDCGL.

It is pertinent to note that the South Goa Collectorate building has recently garnered attention due to persistent sewage leakages. The tanks situated in the premises have also been reported as overflowing. This issue was brought to the attention of the Minister for Environment Aleixo Sequeira, during his weekly visit to the premises to address public grievances.

A warning was issued to the relevant authorities and responsible parties, indicating that the issue remains only partially resolved.
