The I-Run Goa Marathon is set to be held on January 4, celebrating nine years of helping underprivileged communities in Goa. This year, the marathon will include a 32 km race for experienced runners.

“Each year, we try to offer something new for runners. The 32 km race is for those ready to push their limits,” said founder and spokesperson of the marathon, Praveen Maurya.

With the theme ‘Run for a Cause’, the marathon raises funds for child education and women empowerment, helping children in 23 orphanages across Calangute and South Goa with meals, clothing, sports equipment and educational support.

Other race categories include the 21 km Half Marathon, 10 km and 5 km timed runs, 5 km charity run and a 2 km fun run. The 32 km race will start at 5 a.m. from Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao, go to Panjim Gymkhana and return to the start.

Since 2017, the marathon has attracted over 10,000 participants from India and abroad.

Presented by Sandu Pharmaceuticals, powered by Sumit Builders and Developers, and co-powered by SSRC Logistics Goa, the marathon will also have participants from the armed forces, Goa Police and around 30 para-athletes.

The Dona Paula and Miramar route will have water stations, breakfast counters, medical and physiotherapy support and volunteers. Participants will receive a medal, certificate, T-shirt and timing bib (except charity and fun runs).

The day will end with fitness sessions and activities hosted by Sunil Fitness Wave.
