The Nationalist Educational Institutions Management Association, Goa has urged the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to do away with the use of contractual staff in schools and instead sanction regular teaching and non-teaching positions as per eligibility norms and the Goa Education Act
and its rules.
A delegation of the association, led by Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sadanand Shet Tanavade, met Sawant at his official residence on Monday and submitted a memorandum on the challenges faced by the primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools across the state. They also held related discussions.
Among the key demands raised were the sanctioning and payment of salary and non-salary grants to foundation-level classes (Class I to III) under the National Education Policy, implementation of a revised maintenance grant system, regular salary payments to temporary, contract, and lecture-basis staff, continuation of the Balrath Bus Scheme, and the discontinuation of appointing booth-level officers (BLOs) from among school staff.
Other points include implementation of Seventh Pay Commission salary scales for primary school peons, appointment of security guards, librarians, and sweepers in all schools along with adequate remuneration, allotment of land for schools, and ensuring timely responses from the education department to school correspondence.
The association’s general secretary Premanand Mahambre said that the Chief Minister assured the
delegation that most of these demands would be addressed in the upcoming academic year.
