They strike one each in their 3-1 victory against Ladakh in Group C opener
Chhattisgarh: Sikkim kicked off their Swami Vivekananda U20 Men’s National Football Championship campaign in style with a 3-1 victory over Ladakh in a Group C fixture at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground, Narainpur, Chhattisgarh on Sunday.
The early pressure paid off for Sikkim when Ladakh’s Jigmet Nurboo inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 19th minute. However, Ladakh responded well and levelled the score deep into first-half stoppage time through Imran Ali Khan, who made it 1-1 at the break.
Undeterred, Sikkim came out firing in the second half. Midfielder Deepjay Sharma restored their lead with a composed finish in the 66th minute before Choden Lepcha sealed the deal ten minutes later, rounding off a confident performance by the Northeastern side. The result gave Sikkim a perfect start in the five-team group, where only the top team progresses to the quarters.
