Sankhali : The Devasthan committee has submitted a memorandum to authorities requesting the closure of Shree Devi Lairai temple at Shirgao to devotees on May 6, the final day of the Kaulotsav.

Chairman Dinanath Gaonkar, speaking on behalf of the temple committee, appealed to all devotees to respect and cooperate with the decision. “The incident that took place on Saturday morning, in which six people lost their lives, is a big shock for us and very unfortunate. To pay tribute to the departed souls, we will conclude the festival with simplicity. The committee makes a sincere appeal that no devotees should come to the temple in Shirgao on that day,” he said.

A meeting was held on Sunday evening in the presence of the Deputy District Magistrate, Deputy Superintendent of Police, and other officials to discuss appropriate measures for managing the crowds.

Gaonkar said that in the meeting, the committee firmly decided that no one should come to the temple on May 6, when the deity is brought back to the temple, for the safety of all devotees.

“We appeal to devotees to cooperate with the administration and the temple committee and not to come to Shirgao for darshan on May 6. This decision is being taken only this year, and we assure that next year all necessary precautions will be taken, and any lapses will be addressed,” he said.
