The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast scattered light to moderate rainfall across Goa for Thursday. It has also issued a thunderstorm warning with winds expected to gust up to 50 kmph in several
areas.
According to the daily weather bulletin, both North and South Goa districts can expect rainfall at “a few places” during the evening hours on Wednesday and Thursday, with conditions expected to dry up from Friday onward.
The rainfall forecast comes as Goa continues to experience above-normal temperatures, with Panaji recording a maximum of 35.7°C on Tuesday, 1.6°C above the seasonal average. Minimum temperatures have also remained warm at 27°C, 0.8°C above normal levels.
The forecast for rainfall is primarily due to two key meteorological systems currently influencing the region’s weather patterns. A trough running from the northeast Arabian Sea to West Madhya Pradesh across Gujarat, along with a north-south trough from south Telangana to the Gulf of Mannar, are creating favourable conditions for precipitation.
These weather systems are situated at different atmospheric levels—the former between 3.1-5.8 km above mean sea level and the latter at 0.9 km—creating atmospheric instability that could trigger evening thundershowers.
Goa has experienced mixed rainfall patterns this season. While North Goa has received 16.7 mm of rainfall since March 1—40.1% above normal—South Goa has recorded 10.7 mm, which is 25.3% below normal.
The weather outlook for the coming week shows mostly dry conditions from May 9-13, with temperatures expected to remain steady around 35°C during the day and 27°C at night. Humidity levels will range between 65-85%, creating warm and somewhat muggy conditions across the state.
