Debnath defends National Games title, scores 61.58 in men’s traditional yoga final

Panaji: Goa’s Shubham Debnath continued his dominance in Men’s

Traditional Yogasana, clinching the gold medal at the 38th National Games held at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Stadium, Uttarakhand, on Tuesday.

Uttarakhand’s Vishal Dwivedi secured silver, while Karnataka’s Bharat Rama Gouda took home the bronze.

In the final round, Shubham impressed with four compulsory asanas—Karna Pidasana, Kapotanasana, Trivikramasana, and Paripurna Matsyendrasana—alongside three optional asanas, Parivrut Shiva Linkarasana, Urbhasana, and Supta Tittibhasana, earning a total score of 61.58 points.

This marks Shubham’s second gold medal at the National Games, following his triumph at the 37th edition in Goa, where he improved on his silver medal finish from the 36th National Games.

Reflecting on his achievement, Shubham said, “After winning gold last year, I set my sights on defending my title. I won silver in the 36th NG, gold in the 37th NG, and now another gold—making it three consecutive medals. This was my biggest dream, and I’m thrilled to have achieved it. My coach, my managers, and I are all extremely happy,” he signed off.
