Margao : Additional Collector II, Ramesh Gaonkar, on Friday said that the PWD and Fire Service have cleared silt, small wooden logs, and other tree waste that had accumulated beneath the Paroda bridge.

Local residents had earlier alleged that the PWD engineers failed to carry out these desilting works despite their importance in mitigating flood risks in the Paroda region.

Officials from the Electricity Department also conducted a survey of the affected areas.

Gabriel Fernandes, a resident, said that the PWD engineer responsible for the road division visited the site to assess conditions for possible use of an alternative route during emergencies.

“We will inspect the entire stretch to determine whether the PWD, Electricity, and other relevant authorities have commenced the necessary work as directed by the South Goa District Collector, Egna Cleetus,” Fernandes said.

Cleetus had instructed the officials to implement preventive measures and submit a compliance report within 48 hours of the order issued on Thursday evening.

Local residents said that the accumulated water had receded by late Thursday evening.
