Six arrested for assault on tourists at Calangute shack

Calangute beach saw yet another low as a group of tourists were assaulted by workers at a shack at  Umtta Vaddo, which led to the arrest of six people.

One of the tourists was seriously injured, while others suffered minor injuries in the attack.

The workers were arrested based on a complaint filed by Nitin Agarwal, of Manpada, Thane, who was bludgeoned and
kicked. 

Noufal PT, (28) from Mallapuram, Kerala,   Mayuresh Soudagar, (34), a resident of Kotkarwado, Pernem,   Rohit Kumar (27), Abhishek Kumar (24) and Surinder Kumar, (28), all three from Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, and Vinod Kumar (31) of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh were arrested for the assault over some petty issue.

They were arrested under sections 189(3), 191(2)(3), 191, 115(2), 109(1)  read with Section 190 of the BNS.

Factoring in the worsening law and order situation along the North Goa beach belt, SP (North) held a meeting with the shack owners on Friday. He urged them to “involve the police” if they face any unruly customers. “Don’t take law into yours hands under any circumstances,”, he told them.

“We work closely with the shack owners and they are fully cooperating with us”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Calangute police have also registered an offence under sections 115(2), 351(3), 352, 79 of the BNS following a complaint filed by  Manvendra Singh, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana, who alleged that  Shadil Khan, the owner of Magic Shop, assaulted him with slaps, punches, and kicks  over the purchase of toys from the shop.

Singh also alleged that Khan swore at his sister-in-law, and threatened him of dire consequences.
