South Goa district collector Egna Cleetus on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the district-level coordination committee to review and streamline preparations for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), scheduled to be held at five centres in South Goa on May 4.
Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET exams will now see greater involvement from local administration and police following a paper leak incident reported from an institution in Patna,
Bihar, on May 5 last year. The Ministry of Education has mandated tighter security measures to prevent malpractices.
“For the first time, the district administration and police are directly involved in the conduct of the examinations,” South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus said after
the meeting.
“We have taken detailed steps to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place. The deputy collector and sub-divisional police officer will oversee security measures, including the transportation of the question papers and sealing of exam materials. School principals who will serve as centre-in-charges, police officials, and deputy collectors participated in today’s meeting,” the collector said.
There are 5,500 NEET centres across the country this year, with nearly 23 lakh students expected to appear for the exam. In Goa, around 5,200 students are scheduled to answer the test.
Cleetus said all stakeholders now bear collective responsibility for the smooth conduct of the entrance exam.
“There are five centres in South Goa identified for these exams,” she said.
