Speaker of Goa legislative assembly Ramesh Tawadkar on Friday hinted that the issue of cabinet reshuffle in Chief Minister Pramod Sawant-led government would be ‘‘resolved” in the next 15 days.
Speaking to media, the Canacona MLA and the senior BJP leader said the names of Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, former chief minister Digambar Kamat, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo are doing the rounds.
In a recent visit to Goa, BJP’s national general secretary B L Santhosh held a one-to-one meeting with many ministers, BJP MLAs and alliance partners.
According to sources, Santhosh has submitted his report about Goa party organisation and the government to the central leadership of the party, which reportedly has suggested a reshuffle in the Sawant-led cabinet.
The issue of reshuffle in the state cabinet has been in the news since the last one year even as the Chief Minister himself has said in the past that there is a need for it and that he would evaluate the performance of his ministers before arriving at a decision.
A cabinet reshuffle was predicted by many after eight Congress MLAs joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in September 2022. However, the reshuffle happened in December 2023 with the inclusion of Nuvem MLA Alexio Sequeira in the cabinet after the then PWD Minister Cabral was dropped.
