Amrut Naik clinches title

Calangute: Curchorem’s Amrut Naik emerged champion at the 1st All Goa Chess Championship for the Visually Challenged, held at the Calangute Association Club House.

Naik clinched the title with 4.5 points from five rounds, holding his nerve in the final round to draw against Sudhakar Jadhav and remain unbeaten. Salman Patel and Shivam Sabir finished close behind with 4 points each, with Patel taking second place on tie-break and Sabir settling for third.

The tournament witnessed participation from 15 visually impaired players from across Goa, promoting inclusivity and showcasing the resilience and talent within the community.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by former GCA President Chetan Desai as Chief Guest, and Calangute Association Club Secretary Ryan Menezes, who was lauded for his support.

The event was conducted by the Goa Cricket Association for the blind under the leadership of President Vishwasrao Nagvekar, with IA Sanjay Kavlekar serving as Chief Arbiter.
