They beat Rosary College, Navelim 3-2 to clinch second consecutive men’s inter-collegiate title
Navelim: CES’s College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim retained the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Football title with a 3-2 win over Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim at Rosary Church Ground on Monday.
Rosary opened the scoring in the 29th minute through Ashwek Jadhav, who finished from outside the box.
CES levelled through Atif Shaikh in the 45th minute, with the forward heading in Prince’s cross.
Atif struck again in the 46th minute, tapping home after a corner created a rebound to put CES 2-1 ahead.
Rosary responded in the 71st minute when Aizan Shaikh converted from close range after Salvador’s header from a corner was parried by the goalkeeper.
With the final heading towards extra time, Swavel Furtado settled it in the 89th minute, finishing a through ball to seal the championship.
Rosary hit the post through Garrison Fernandes late on but could not find another equaliser.
Furtado was named Best Player of the Championship, having finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with eight goals.
The trophies and medals were presented by Videsh V. Dessai, Prof. Brahma Edwin Barretto, Milton Fernandes, Dr Devashish Bagchi and Balachandra B. Jadar, among others.
