Chennai eye turnaround against Punjab Kings

Chennai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be eager to bounce back in their first home game of the Indian Premier League against Punjab Kings on Friday. The five-time champions endured a disappointing start, losing comprehensively to Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. With a youthful squad, CSK will aim to correct lapses across batting, bowling, and fielding.

The Chennai pitch, which played well in the recent T20 World Cup, is expected to offer good batting conditions. Injured veteran MS Dhoni, who missed the opener, may return to the dugout to guide captain Ruturaj Gaikwad while managing a calf strain. Sanju Samson, CSK’s marquee signing, will look to make a strong impression in front of home fans, having failed to deliver on debut. Key batter Dewald Brevis remains doubtful with a side strain, while youngsters like Kartik Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan will be expected to step up.

CSK’s bowlers, including Matt Henry and Noor Ahmad, struggled against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the previous match and will be keen to rebound.

Punjab Kings, last year’s finalists, continue to thrive under Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting. Cooper Connolly’s composed batting anchored their chase against Gujarat Titans, while Yuzvendra Chahal impressed with disciplined spin. Harpreet Brar remains a key factor for Punjab, with Vijaykumar Vyshak maintaining his

consistent form. CSK will need a collective effort to challenge the in-form visitors in a match crucial for early-season momentum.
