Mapusa

Chapora Yuvak Sangh produced a strong comeback to beat Goa Police SC 3-1 in the Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.

Goa Police struck first through Harshad Gaonkar, who powered home a towering header. The move was set in motion when Mayuresh Naik was brought down in midfield by Chapora’s Leslee Britto, allowing Police to quickly turn the foul into an attacking opportunity.

Chapora found their way back into the contest through Cyprian Rodrigues. Edwin Viegas picked him out with a long ball to the left flank, and Cyprian did the rest, controlling neatly, driving into the box past his marker, and curling a composed finish into the bottom-right corner.

Omkar Shetgaonkar clipped a clever ball over the defence into the box for Cyprian, who stayed calm under pressure and delicately chipped the onrushing goalkeeper to complete his brace and give Chapora a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Goa Police came out with intent in the second half and continued to search for an equaliser, creating openings in the final third, but Chapora’s backline remained disciplined and resilient.

Chapora sealed the win when Soham Sheticar capitalised on a mistake, intercepting Gauresh Desai’s pass before carrying the ball forward and calmly sliding a low finish past the goalkeeper, who was caught off his line.
