Dempo draw with Salgaocar

Geno Sports Club, Panjim Gymkhana earn three points each

Sanguem: Dempo Cricket Club mounted a strong rearguard effort after being forced to follow-on, frustrating Salgaocar Cricket Club’s push for an outright win as their  opening round of the Goa Premier Division League ended in draw on Monday.

After being bowled out for 196 in reply to Salgaocar’s imposing 513, Dempo responded with determination in their second innings, reaching 152 for 3 at stumps. Aaditya Kota remained unbeaten on 67, while Abhinav Tejrana added 45 to steer the recovery and deny Salgaocar a victory.

Earlier, Yash Kasvankar starred with the ball for Salgaocar, claiming 6 for 48 to put Dempo on the back foot. Salgaocar took three points for the first-innings lead, while Dempo earned one.

At the NAPEX ground, Panjim Gymkhana and Margao Cricket Club played out a tense draw. Chasing 274, Margao reached 225 for 9, falling just 15 runs short, while Panjim needed one wicket when time expired.

Dishank Misquin (70 not out) and Ishan Gadekar (51) had earlier guided Panjim Gymkhana to 214 for 6 declared. Margao’s chase was led by Deepraj Gaonkar (88) and Aryan Narvekar (61). Panjim Gymkhana secured three points, with Margao taking one.

In another drawn match, Geno Sports Club claimed first-innings points against Chowgule Sports Club. Resuming at 124 for 3, Geno were bowled out for 225, with Vikas Singh scoring 47. Darshan Misal led Chowgule’s fightback with an impressive 7 for 67.

Chowgule replied with 199 for 7, powered by Madhur Yadav (69) and Misal (44), while Vikas Singh and Manish Kakode picked up three wickets each as the match ended without a result.
