Panaji: Dempo Goa Challengers will look to build momentum ahead of the semifinals when they take on UP Prometheans in their final league fixture of Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis Season 7 today.
The match comes after HVR Kolkata Thunder Blades edged defending champions U Mumba TT 8-7 on Tuesday to confirm semifinal berths for Kolkata, U Mumba and Dempo, with one knockout spot still to be decided.
Kolkata snapped U Mumba’s winning streak in a closely fought tie. Eduard Ionescu recovered from
a game down to beat Manush Shah before Taneesha Kotecha handed previously unbeaten Anna Hursey her first defeat of the campaign.
U Mumba fought back through Manush Shah and Hursey in the mixed doubles, while Lilian Bardet and Nithyashree Mani kept the defending champions in contention.
However, Zeng Jian sealed the tie with an 11-5 victory in the deciding game of the final match to ensure Kolkata’s progress to the semifinals.
