His treble helps them beat Calangute 3-1 to seal three crowns in a row

Calangute: A Doyal Alves hattrick powered Sporting Clube de Goa to a commanding 3-1 win over Calangute Association at the Poriat Ground on Monday, sealing a third consecutive Goa Professional League title and making them the third team to achieve a hattrick of titles.

The Flaming Oranje, who now have nine league titles to their name, produced a performance befitting champions, with Alves leading the charge through a clinical display that underlined their attacking intent.

Sporting dictated terms from the outset, with Alves striking the woodwork twice in the first half and Austin Fernandes going close as they controlled proceedings. The breakthrough came in first-half stoppage time (45+1’), when Alves capitalised on a rebound after Antush Moniz’s effort was not held cleanly by the Calangute goalkeeper.

Alves doubled the lead in the 50th minute with a composed finish from inside the area, before completing his hat-trick in the 90th minute off a Moniz cross to put the result beyond doubt.

Calangute pulled one back deep into stoppage time through Nigel Silveira (90+5’), while Sheldon Pereira was sent off in the 87th minute, compounding their struggles late in the contest.

Sporting will next be in action at the Duler Stadium on April 30 when they take on FC Goa.

In another match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, FC Goa registered a 2-1 win over Sesa Football Academy. Bryson Pereira (54’) and Sitroy Carvalho (89’) scored for FC Goa, while Aman Rajbhar (35’) had given Sesa the lead earlier.
