Head coach Gautam Gambhir dedicated India’s T20 World Cup triumph to his predecessor Rahul Dravid and BCCI Centre of Excellence chief VVS Laxman, crediting them for keeping Indian cricket in strong shape.

“I should dedicate this trophy to Rahul bhai and then to Laxman,”
Gambhir said.

“What Rahul bhai has done to keep Indian cricket in such good shape… I have to thank him
for everything.”

He also praised Laxman’s contribution behind the scenes in nurturing future talent through the Centre
of Excellence.

“VVS Laxman has done so much for Indian cricket, especially behind closed doors, because the COE remains the pipeline for Indian cricket,” Gambhir said.

The coach also acknowledged chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, saying he had taken difficult decisions in the
team’s interest.

Gambhir further expressed gratitude to ICC chairman Jay Shah for backing him during difficult phases in his tenure.

“Whether it was after New Zealand or South Africa, the only person who called me actually was Jay bhai,” he said.

“And I had to thank him for trusting me
with this job.”
