They secure second consecutive title; Goa College of Engineering finish runners-up
Mapusa: Goa Medical College, Bambolim retained the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Chess (Mixed) Championship title, emerging winners of the 2026-27 edition at the SAG Multi-purpose Indoor Stadium, Peddem.
Goa College of Engineering finished runners-up, while Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda took third place. A total of 42 teams competed in the championship.
Ayush Shirodkar of Shree Damodar College, Margao was named Best Player.
The winning GMC team comprised Vardhan Shetker, Tanvi V Hadkonkar, Soham Naik, Anvesh Bandekar and Alaina Pereira.
Goa College of Engineering fielded Atharv Katkar, Reuben Colaco, Suyash S. Pai, Swayam Bambolkar and Maanas Phal, while DBC Engineering’s team consisted of Tanishq Kavlekar, Ishan Pagi, Atharv Dessai, Aditya Sawant and Vraj Porob.
International Arbiter Arvind Mhamal was the chief guest for the closing ceremony, with FIDE Arbiter Dattaram Pinge and Goa University Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports Balachandra B. Jadar presenting the trophies and medals.
