Goa shine at national yogasana meet

Panaji: Goa’s Yogasana athletes claimed one silver and two bronze medals at the 50th Sub-Junior and Junior National Yogasana/Artistic/Rhythmic/Sports Championship, held in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Representing the state under the banner of the Goa Yoga Association, recognised by the Sports Authority of Goa, the contingent excelled across multiple categories.

The standout result came in the Artistic Pair (Boys) event, where Yashwant  Madar and Om Govenkar secured the silver medal. Goa’s bronze medals were won by Kathyayani Honawarkar and Tusu Manna in the Artistic Pair (Girls) category.

Other notable finishes included Tusu Manna and Sahara Madar placing fifth in Rhythmic Pair (Girls), while Om Govenkar and Yashwant finished fourth and fifth respectively in Artistic Solo (Boys). Kirthi Itagi placed sixth in Artistic Solo (Girls), and Harshita Dhiraj Murgaokar and Aashnee Sarmalkar received consolation prizes. The team was guided by senior coach Damodar Govenkar, with Ashwini Churi serving as girls’ coach.

The medal winners were later felicitated by Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar at Amonem, Canacona, during the Lokotsav and Tribal Sports Festival.
