Nagoa: Guardian Angel SC and Cortalim Villagers SWSC were held to a goalless draw in the Goa Professional League at the Nagoa ground on Monday.

Guardian Angel came close to an early breakthrough when Preston Castano dispossessed LeoGomindes, drove into the box and fired goalwards, but Cortalim goalkeeper Passang Sherpa stood tall to palm the effort onto the crossbar.

At the other end, Cortalim nearly broke the deadlock after Gurpreet Singh rushed off his line to deal with a long ball but fumbled under pressure, allowing the ball to fall kindly to Norman Dias.

Cortalim continued to press aggressively for an opener and soon after, Guardian’s Castano went into the book for a rash challenge. Airen Fernandes took the resulting set-piece and drove in a low shot, but it too missed the target as the sides went into the break locked at 0-0.

Angel enjoyed more control in midfield after the restart and created another clear chance when Pushkar Prabhu slid a through ball into the box for Moises D’Sa, who controlled well and whipped in a low shot, only for Sherpa to once again deny him with a sharp save. Cortalim responded by trying to regain a foothold in midfield and went close through a slick one-two

between Clifton and Anish, which opened up space at the edge of the area.

In the closing stages, Cortalim threw men forward in search of a winner, but Guardian Angel’s defence held firm to ensure both sides settled for a point.
