The Indian women’s cricket team will look to improve its fielding and build on a dominant eight-wicket win when it takes on Sri Lanka in the second WT20I on Tuesday. However, fielding, particularly catching, remained a concern.
India are overwhelming favourites on paper, with Jemimah Rodrigues continuing her rich form and punishing Shashini Gimhani’s loose deliveries. A notable positive was 20-year-old left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma, who bowled
economically, conceding just 16 runs without giving away a boundary.
For Shafali Verma, the series offers a chance to find consistency, while India’s senior players, including Harmanpreet and Deepti Sharma, hope to face more challenging opposition before preparing for a demanding tour of Australia following the Women’s Premier League.
