PBKS face do-or-die test

Lucknow: Punjab Kings head into their final league fixture with their playoff hopes hanging by a thread and their campaign in danger of collapsing after a sharp mid-season reversal in form. Shreyas Iyer’s side, once sitting comfortably among the frontrunners, have now slipped to fifth after six consecutive defeats that have undone the promise of a strong start.

A record chase against DC earlier in the season briefly underlined their title credentials, but since then Punjab have lost rhythm across all departments. Their top order has misfired, the middle order has failed to sustain momentum, and the bowling unit has repeatedly leaked runs at crucial stages. Fielding lapses have further compounded their slide.

Against already-eliminated Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab not only need a win but also favourable results elsewhere to stay alive in the playoff race. Their qualification scenario depends on multiple permutations, including outcomes in Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals.

LSG, meanwhile, enter the contest with little at stake but have shown renewed intent at home, making Punjab’s task even more precarious at this decisive stage of the league.
