Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi turned a rain-curtailed IPL match into a fireworks display as Rajasthan Royals crushed Mumbai Indians by 27 runs here on Tuesday.
Reduced to 11 overs per side, Rajasthan posted 150 for 3, riding on Jaiswal’s unbeaten 77 off 32 balls and Sooryavanshi’s 39-run cameo. The openers put on a rapid 80-run partnership, smashing nine sixes between them and setting the tone for a dominant innings. Jaiswal struck 10 fours and four sixes, while Sooryavanshi showed remarkable composure against Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur.
MI’s chase never gained momentum, as the top order collapsed to 23 for 3 inside three overs. Ryan Rickelton (8), Rohit Sharma (5) and Suryakumar Yadav (6) fell cheaply. Tilak Varma (14) and Hardik Pandya (9) tried to rebuild, while Sherfane Rutherford produced a quick 25 off eight balls. Sandeep Sharma’s low catch dismissed Rutherford, restoring Rajasthan’s control.
Earlier, Jaiswal attacked from the first over, taking 22 runs off Deepak Chahar, followed by three sixes off Trent Boult. The powerplay ended with Rajasthan racing to 59 in 3.2 overs. MI’s bowlers, including Allah Ghazanfar (2/21), briefly struck back, removing Dhruv Jurel (2) and Riyan Parag (20). But Jaiswal remained unshaken, bringing up a half-century off 23 balls and steering Rajasthan to 150.
