To mark the birth anniversary celebrations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a life-size statue of Shivaji Maharaj was installed at Nehru Park in Sanguem.

Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai said that the installation of the statue would help foster communal harmony in Sanguem.

“Shivaji Maharaj established Hindavi Swarajya without any discrimination based on caste, creed, or religion. He not only fought against the Mughal Empire but also resisted the British, Portuguese, Dutch, and French,” he said.

He added that the installation was a long-pending demand of the Sanguem Municipal Council and the local citizens.

President of the installation committee and
councillor, Sangmeahwar Naik described the day as historic.

Meanwhile, in Kakoda, Curchorem, the celebrations were marked by the traditional enthusiasm of the region. As in previous years, the Jay Bhavani Sports and Cultural Club, along with Rashtriya Jagruti Dal, jointly organised the event. This year marked the 110th anniversary
of the celebration by these organisations.

Phal Dessai praised the people of Kakoda and Curchorem for their unwavering commitment to celebrating Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary for over a century.

“It is remarkable that they continued this tradition even during the oppressive Portuguese rule in Goa,”
he said.

Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral acknowledged the deep admiration of the people for Shivaji Maharaj. “His courage in fighting the Mughal Empire and
establishing self-rule continues to inspire generations,” he said.

The celebrations culminated in a grand procession, which commenced at Mahadev Temple and passed through Bansai and Curchorem market before concluding at Shivaji Chowk with a public meeting.
