Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said the state government is working on an action-oriented strategy for the Goa Clean Energy Roadmap to achieve net zero target by 2050.

He was speaking after inaugurating a three-day workshop on the ‘implementation of the Goa Clean Energy Roadmap 2050’ in Panaji.

The Chief Minister said that an objective of the workshop was to develop an action-oriented strategy for the effective implementation of the clean energy roadmap, and also to help the state achieve its net zero target by 2050.

He launched the Goa Renewable Energy Capacity Planning Report, and the Net Positive Panchayat (NPP) initiative – India’s first programme to make every panchayat energy self-sufficient.

An MoU with SELCO Foundation was also signed.

Minister for New Renewable Energy Ramkrishna Dhavalikar said the initiative will not only save energy but also boost rural economy, adding that every panchayat will produce green energy, and supply it for local use.

“This will be a new model for green energy in Goa,” he reckoned.

Chief electrical engineer Stephen Fernandes, member secretary of Goa Energy Development Agency Sanjeev Joglekar other dignitaries were also present for the function.

The workshop has been organised by the Department of New and Renewable Energy in collaboration with the Goa Energy Development Agency and with technical support from GIZ.
