Minister for New and Renewable Energy Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavlikar said that the state government provides a 50% subsidy for installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) plants to residential consumers, group housing societies, residential welfare associations, and educational institutions. Commercial, industrial, and other consumers are eligible for a 20% subsidy.
“Any citizen with a permanent Consumer Account (CA) number of the Electricity Department is eligible to apply under the revised scheme for promotion of grid-connected rooftop solar systems,” said Dhavlikar in response to a Legislative Assembly Question.
The question was raised by Santa Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes regarding government measures to encourage households to install solar panels to generate green energy.
Additionally, the central government provides a subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kilowatt (kW) for the first 2kWp (60% of benchmark cost) and Rs 18,000 per kW for additional capacity (40% of benchmark cost) in the residential sector, the minister said.
