Margao: Recognising tiatr scripts in the Sahitya Akademi literary awards would further encourage writers and contribute to the preservation of Konkani tiatr literature, said the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG), while welcoming Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s remarks on considering tiatr script books for the prestigious award.

Speaking at the 38th Goa Official Language Day function recently, Sawant highlighted the literary value of tiatr scripts and their significance in Goa’s cultural heritage. He also reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting tiatr on a global platform.

“Tiatr has a rich heritage spanning nearly 133 years. Several books on tiatr scripts have already been published, and their recognition at the national level with Sahitya Akademi awards would be a proud moment. TAG remains committed to encouraging tiatr writers to publish their scripts in book form,” said TAG President Anthony Barbosa.

Barbosa said that in a recent meeting with the Chief Minister, discussions were held about TAG’s efforts to promote tiatr internationally. “The Chief Minister has assured full support for representing tiatr on the global stage. We are delighted by his keen interest in its promotion,” he added.

On the importance of national recognition for tiatr literature, TAG vice-president Marcos Gonsalves said, “Numerous tiatr scripts are available in book form, and TAG continues to encourage writers to publish their works. This will help preserve the literary significance of tiatr for future generations.”
