TIATR REVIEW JP Pereira

Written by Come-dian Dominic, this new tiatr is a tragic tale of parents deserted by their only son and the problems they face, especially when others begin to eye their property.

Ruzar, Priscila and their only son Mark are a happy family. The mother is always worried about her son and cannot let him out of her sight for very long. Zinia is Mark’s girlfriend, and the two plan to leave for Canada in search of better prospects. Although the mother finds it difficult to live without her son, she eventually agrees. The father however, objects, believing that Mark, an engineer, can secure a good job in Goa. Despite his objections, the youngsters have made up their minds and leave for Canada.

Priscila later falls sick, and Ruzar requests his son to return and see his mother. After many excuses, Mark does return briefly, but circumstances and pressure from Zinia pull him away again. Ruzar is left to face life on his own as builders begin eyeing his property and attempt to persuade him to sell. The parish priest offers guidance, while inmates from an old age home try to support him. The story reflects a situation seen in many households today, where elderly parents are abandoned and left vulnerable. This emotionally powerful tiatr is a must-watch for families as it mirrors real-life struggles and leaves audiences with much to
reflect upon.

Romeo provides the lighting, while the sets are by Anthony de Ambajim. The cast includes Rosario Botelho as the tragic Ruzar, with Priscila playing his ever-worried wife. Sonia delivers a strong performance as the heartless Zinia, while Allwyn D’Souza does well as the indecisive son. Xavier de Maina is apt as the builder, and Manuel Dias performs convincingly as the understanding priest.

There is some good comedy, although at times the play drags. Comedian Dominic, along with Roque Coelho, Caetano and Mathew, play the amusing inmates of the old age home. Chitra makes her comedy debut and creates plenty of fun as an
elderly teacher.

The band includes Averly and Roneber (saxophone), Reyhan (trumpet), Ehrlich (guitar), Sanford (keyboard), Mario (bass) and Xavier (drums). Ave and Alias render the opening song. Additional songs are performed by Xavier Gomes, Leslie, Marcus Vaz, Ave, Alika, Rons, Xavier de Maina, Priscila, Alias and Olga Vaz.
