Panaji: Pet owners visiting the Tonca Veterinary Hospital will no longer have to depend on PAWS or private clinics for X-ray and sonography, with the hospital becoming the first government animal facility in Goa to offer these diagnostic services.
A hospital official said the facility has recently been equipped with modern machines, including an X-ray and ultrasound machine, aimed at improving medical care for small animals.
“We have installed the machines and will start operations soon. Our staff will undergo proper training to handle the equipment, and then the services will be available to the public,” the official said.
Earlier, in the absence of such tools, doctors would refer pet owners to private clinics. “Now, with these machines in place, we can offer better and more convenient diagnostics,” the official added.
The new services are expected to help with quicker, more accurate diagnosis, reducing the inconvenience and high costs faced by pet owners.
At present, the hospital treats animals like dogs, cats, birds, turtles, rabbits, buffaloes, goats, and pigs. Other services include surgery, vaccination, and artificial insemination.
The hospital operates from 9 am to 5 pm, with a lunch break from 12.30 pm to 2 pm. Emergency services are available for large animals after working hours, and in urgent cases, doctors also visit cattle farms.
Farmers are provided with contact details in advance, the official said.
