The state government has submitted before the High Court of Bombay at Goa that a dedicated WhatsApp number and group will soon be made operational to address the concerns of residents affected by the construction of the Porvorim elevated road.
Residents of Porvorim, who had filed a PIL on the traffic congestion caused by the elevated corridor project on NH-66, particularly between Guirim Junction and Mall de Goa, with further disruptions due to diversions, have also filed an intervention application in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) raising the issue of blocked sewage and drainage systems.
In the matter, the court had instructed the PWD official present to ensure that the contractor adheres to safety instructions for the welfare of the people and had directed the Public Works Department (PWD) and the contractor to ensure the clearance or construction of sewage and drainage lines before the monsoon season.
The PIL had sought that the state government establish trauma care centres, conduct a comprehensive audit of road infrastructure, and address safety deficiencies. Additionally, the petition advocated for the implementation of modern traffic enforcement technologies, such as speed cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, in high-risk zones.
The court had earlier directed the contractor to sprinkle water at the construction sites four times a day to mitigate dust pollution.
