Colombo: The Colombo High Court on Thursday ordered authorities to issue summons to two Indian nationals in an ongoing criminal case against Namal Rajapaksa, a legislator and son of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Namal Rajapaksa is accused of misappropriating 70 million Sri Lankan Rupees in the pretext of promoting rugby under an India-funded project.
Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department issued a notification saying two Indians, who are witnesses in this case, could not be contacted.
Following this, High Court Judge Aparna Suwandurugoda instructed the issuing of summons under the procedure outlined by the Judicial Service Commission for foreign witnesses.
The pre-trial conference related to the case was concluded last month, according to the Ada Derana news portal, following which the Colombo High Court ordered that the case concerning the legislator be taken up for hearing on July 7.
