Singapore: In Singapore, performers at a cultural festival this weekend received an unusual reward: boxes of mangoes.

As India stepped up efforts to promote mango exports through community events, mangoes from different states were presented as rewards for songs, dances and musical performances during the “Threads of Indian Tradition” festival held at the Nee Soon public housing estate in north-east Singapore. This was the second mango promotion event organised this month by the High Commission of India in Singapore. The first was held earlier this month at another public housing estate on the east coast, where more than 6,000 visitors sampled 10 varieties of Indian mangoes.

India, the world’s largest producer of mangoes, has been expanding promotional campaigns in key overseas markets including the UAE, the United States and the United Kingdom, focusing on premium varieties such as Alphonso and Kesar. These initiatives often include mango festivals and buyer-seller outreach programmes.
