After three years, ‘Samraat Kavyamahotsav’ will return today, July 4, 3 p.m., with nearly 45 Konkani and Marathi poets participating in a day-long state-level poetry recital at the Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji.
aThe festival is being organised by Samraat Club International, State 1, under the chairmanship of Deepak Narvekar and the leadership of state president Shashikant Punaji, with Samraat Club Keri as the host. The programme will be inaugurated by Marathi poet and writer Arvind Jagtap in the presence of chairman, Institute Menezes Braganza, Dashrath Parab. Union Minister Shripad Naik will be the chief guest at the valedictory function.
The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Sarivar Sari’, a tribute to Goa’s monsoon. Event coordinator and former state president of Samraat Club International, State 1, Pravin Sabnis said, “The festival is a non-competitive event and aims to promote Konkani and Marathi poetry through recitals while providing a common platform for poets and poetry lovers.”
Explaining this year’s theme, Sabnis says ‘Sarivar Sari’ symbolises the rhythm of Goa’s monsoon, with one poem following another like continuous rainfall.
The event will be held in three themed sessions. ‘Paus-sari’, centred on the monsoon, will be chaired by veteran poet Nutan Sakhardande and coordinated by Dr Neeta Torne. ‘Bhava-sari’, focusing on emotions and human experiences, will be chaired by veteran poet Prakash Naik and coordinated by Vinay Bapat. The concluding session, ‘Hasya-sari’, featuring humorous and satirical poetry, will be chaired by poet Ramesh Gadi and coordinated by Hemant Arya.
