Curchorem: Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral on Sunday flagged the lack of essential facilities at the newly-inaugurated government hospital in Curchorem, despite Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s assurances a year ago.

Cabral was speaking at an event held at Harmony Hall, Pontemol, Curchorem, to announce the newly-elected Curchorem block committee.

“Our new hospital was envisioned to rank second only to the South Goa District Hospital. While the 25-bed gynaecology ward is operational, critical needs such as specialist doctors and other vital requirements remain unfulfilled,” he said.

Cabral said he will, one day, invite the Chief Minister here and question him “about the lack of government cooperation in completing our projects.”

He also highlighted other pending development projects, including the Curchorem bus stand, multipurpose sports complex, library, and handloom centre, which he said he has been pursuing since 2012. However, he also raised the issue of the lack of financial support and cooperation from the government to realise these initiatives.

During the function, the party’s high command announced Manojkumar Naik of Xelvona, Curchorem, as the new block president. Six candidates were considered for the post based on their biodata and contributions to the party.

Cabral expressed confidence in Naik’s ability to shoulder the responsibility and work for the party’s development. The outgoing block president, Vishwas Sawant, was also present and extended his support to the newly-elected president.

Other prominent attendees included general secretary Rajendra Vast, CCMC chairperson Prasanna Bhende, Xeldem VP sarpanch Kavita Gauns Desai, Curchorem constituency RO Ganpat Naik, ZP member Sidharth Gauns Desai, Assolda sarpanch Custodio Fernandes, South Goa RO Ashish Karmali, and several party workers.
