Panaji : Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate on Sunday said the BJP should step up its  outreach towards minority communities, adding   that he will work towards getting more minority members into the party.

Stressing that party’s focus should also be on minorities, Monserrate said, “Many minority community members whom I have met  say that they are there with me.

I know they are with me, but I am in a party. So we all should be following the ideologies… given the broader consensus as far as the party is concerned. We need to take everyone along.”

“We should all work to have more outreach towards minorities. I want to get more minority community members into the party so that we have a balance;  I will work forward in that direction,”  said Monserrate, who is the Panaji MLA.

He was speaking after the party unanimously declared Pundalik Shetye as the new Panaji BJP mandal president.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP and state BJP  president Sadanand Shet Tanavade said this is the first time that the BJP has managed to have all 30 booths in Panaji.

Tanavade said that in Panaji assembly constituency, the party has managed to enroll 16,400 primary members and 4.25 lakh primary members across the state.
