Manipur’s star weightlifter, S Bindyarani Devi, delivered a stellar performance at the National Games, clinching the gold medal in the women’s 55kg category while setting a new National Record in the snatch segment.
Bindyarani, a Commonwealth Silver Medalist, overcame an initial setback in her first attempt at 83 kg in the snatch category.
She displayed remarkable resilience, lifting 88 kg in her final attempt, breaking the national record in the process. Her dominance continued in the clean and jerk, where she successfully lifted 107 kg in her first attempt.
Though she faltered at 112 kg in her second attempt, she bounced back with a 113 kg lift in her last attempt. Her total lift of 201 kg was just one kilogram short of her own national record of 202 kg, but her performance cemented her place at the top, making it a memorable National Games for her.
