The Goa government has amended its employment scheme for children of
freedom fighters, increasing the reservation for vacancies under the direct recruitment quota in Group ‘C’ posts.
A notification issued by the Home Department on Monday states that the scheme, which initially reserved 5 per cent of vacancies in Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts, has now been revised to provide 10 per cent reservation under Group ‘C’.
The scheme will remain in effect for an additional year, from March 3, 2025, to February 28, 2026.
Launched in 2023, the scheme originally reserved only 2% of vacancies for children of freedom fighters before it was increased to 5%. Recently, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant noted that only 60 to 70 applications under this category remain pending with the government.
The revised scheme applies to all vacancies under the direct recruitment quota, except for Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ posts, which are filled through the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC). However, the existing 2% reservation for Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ vacancies, based on roster points, will continue for another year from March 1, 2025.
Additionally, Clause 7 of the scheme has been amended to ensure its extension until February 28, 2026, or until all registered children of freedom fighters are sponsored for employment. The notification was issued by Under Secretary (Home) Manthan Naik.
