Dismissing the bribery allegation levelled by the former BJP minister, Pandurang Madkaikar against the state cabinet ministers, the National BJP general secretary, Arun Singh on Thursday said that Madkaikar is a “liar” and that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant “there is no corruption”.

This statement comes amidst allegations by Madkaikar that the Goa government is corrupt and that bribes are needed to clear official files. Madkaikar alleged that ministers are more focused on accumulating wealth rather than addressing the pressing issues facing the state. Addressing a press conference at the city BJP headquarters, Singh said that the state administration is very clean and there is no corruption. “The party is already working on the possibility of an inquiry to be conducted against Madkaikar, however, whatever he has spoken is lies,” he said. State BJP president Damodar ‘Damu’ Naik and the Goa Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Sadanand Tanawade were also present at the briefing.

Singh is in Goa to
guide the state BJP unit as regards constituting various state-level committees of the party.

Singh said that Goans know that the BJP government in Goa is corruption-free, and therefore, have been electing the party to power repeatedly. “There is no need for a verification. There is absolutely no truth in what Madkaikar said,” he said, adding that the leaders should first understand what they should speak in public and what they should not. He said that the Goa BJP unit is one of the few units of the party in the country that has achieved fastest re-organisation of the party at the local level.
