3-day state Budget session begins today

Panaji: The three-day Budget session of Goa legislative assembly will begin from Monday. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will present the Budget for the financial year 2025-26 on Wednesday, the last day of the session.

On the first two days, there will be discussion on the Governor’s speech. In all, 728 questions have been submitted, of which 180 are starred questions and 548 are unstarred.

Various government bills will also be introduced and passed during the session including The Goa State Research Foundation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, The Goa Private Universities

(Amendment) Bill, 2025 and The Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) (Goa Amendment) Bill, 2025, among others.

The Oppositions MLAs held a meeting on Friday ahead of the budget session to chalk out a strategy to corner the state government during the session.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said, “We have had a review and strategised on how to take on this government. I am sure that questions with regards to the scarcity of water, bad roads, financial crisis, crime, law and order, rapes, murders, the recruitment scam… if you look at all this things, we will, as an opposition, will put this government on the mat.”

The Economic Survey is likely to be tabled during the session.
